HYPERHYDROSIS
EXCESSIVE SWEATING
TREATMENT OPTIONS
What is Hyperhydrosis?
overview
Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by excessive sweating beyond what the body needs for temperature regulation. People with this condition sweat more than normal even when they are not hot, exercising, or anxious.
Hyperhidrosis can be primary — meaning it occurs without an underlying medical cause and is thought to be related to an overactive nervous system response — or secondary, triggered by an underlying condition such as thyroid dysfunction, diabetes, menopause, or certain medications.
symptoms
People with hyperhidrosis may experience visible excessive sweating, sweat dripping, frequent damp clothing, skin irritation or infections
triggers
Primary hyperhidrosis is often hereditary and typically begins in childhood or adolescence. Common aggravating factors include heat, anxiety, stress, caffeine, spicy foods, and alcohol, though many people find they sweat excessively regardless of these triggers.
