microneedling

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a cosmetic skin treatment that uses very fine, sterile needles to create tiny micro-injuries in the skin. These small punctures stimulate the body’s natural healing response, encouraging the production of collagen and elastin, which help improve the skin’s texture and firmness.

At a glance

Technology

The SkinPen is the world's first FDA-cleared microneedling device. It uses a sterile cartridge of fine needles to create thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin, triggering the body's natural wound-healing and collagen-production response.

Results

Firmer, smoother skin with improved texture, reduced scarring, and a more even tone. Results continue to develop for up to 3–6 months after a course as new collagen matures.

sessions

A course of 3–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart is recommended for optimal results, though improvement is typically visible after the first treatment.

Process

A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment. The SkinPen handpiece is passed systematically over the treatment area — the session takes approximately 45 minutes in total including numbing time.

works for

Acne scarring, surgical and traumatic scars, fine lines, enlarged pores, uneven skin texture, and general skin quality and radiance. Suitable for most skin types and tones.

Downtime

1–3 days of redness and mild sensitivity, similar in appearance to sunburn. Most clients feel comfortable returning to normal activities within 24–48 hours.

  • Microneedling is generally suitable for most skin types and skin tones. It’s not recommended with active acne or skin infections, open wounds or irritated skin, active eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area.

  • There may be redness (similar to mild sunburn), mild swelling, skin sensitivity, tight or warm feeling, dryness or slight peeling and small pinpoint bleeding during treatment.

These most common reactions usually improve within 24–72 hours.

  • Most clients need 3–6 microneedling sessions, spaced about 2–6 weeks apart, to achieve noticeable improvements. The exact number depends on the skin concern and desired results.

  • The results from microneedling can last several months to over a year, depending on the skin concern being treated and how well the skin is maintained afterward.
