What is Oily Skin ?

overview

Oily skin is a skin type where the sebaceous glands produce excess sebum (natural oil). Sebum helps protect and moisturize the skin, but when too much is produced it can lead to shine, clogged pores, and acne.

symptoms

The most obvious sign of oily skin is a shiny or greasy appearance across the face, particularly in the T-zone — the forehead, nose, and chin. Pores often appear enlarged and are prone to becoming blocked with sebum and dead skin cells, leading to blackheads, whiteheads, and frequent breakouts. Makeup tends to slide or break down more quickly on oily skin, and many people find the texture of their skin feels thick or uneven.

triggers

Oily skin mainly occurs because the sebaceous glands are more active. Factors that influence oil production include genetics, hormones (especially during puberty or menstrual cycles), climate, stres and using harsh skincare products that strip natural oils.
