What is Rosacea?
overview
Rosacea is a common, chronic skin condition that primarily affects the face, causing persistent redness, visible blood vessels, and in some cases pustules that are often mistaken for acne. It tends to develop gradually and can fluctuate significantly over time, with periods of relative calm followed by flare-ups triggered by various internal and external factors. While it cannot be permanently cured, it can be very effectively managed and significantly improved with the right treatment approach.
symptoms
The most recognisable symptom is a persistent redness or flushing across the cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin — often accompanied by a feeling of warmth or burning in the skin. Many people with rosacea also develop visible thread veins or broken capillaries, and some experience papules and pustules that resemble acne breakouts. Skin sensitivity, dryness, and a stinging or tight sensation are also very commonly reported..
triggers
Rosacea is highly individual — what triggers one person may have no effect on another — but the most frequently reported triggers include sun exposure, heat, alcohol (particularly red wine), spicy foods, stress, strenuous exercise, and extremes of temperature. Certain skincare ingredients, particularly those containing alcohol or harsh fragrances, can also aggravate the condition. Identifying and managing personal triggers is an important part of long-term rosacea control alongside clinical treatment.
