What is Pigmentation?
When our skin is exposed to UV light from the sun and High Energy Visible Light (HEVL) from screens and overhead lights, the melanocyte cells respond by producing more melanin and making the skin darker. They also respond to certain hormones in the body such as oestrogen, progesterone, cortisol, and thyroid hormones.
Pigmentation changes can, therefore, happen because of a number of different issues, such as sun exposure, inflammation or a condition called melasma.
Successful treatment of hyperpigmentation depends on the underlying cause and diagnosis and your individual skin type or skin tone.

In its most common form, it presents itself as freckles caused by the sun, and may not pose a problem to the individual. At its worst it can be life-altering brown patches of skin on the face (such as melasma) and neck that simply won’t go away without treatment.
